Shrimp Duties Update: ASPA Thanks Petition Supporters

November 20, 2024

On November 19, 2024, thanks to petitions filed by the American Shrimp Processors Association, the U.S. International Trade Commission voted unanimously to impose antidumping and countervailing duties on imports of shrimp from Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

This couldn’t have happened without support from both the processing and fishing segments of the domestic industry. U.S. law requires petitioners to demonstrate to the Commerce Department that a critical mass of a given industry supports before investigations even begin.

In addition to ASPA, two other groups had the opportunity to show Commerce that they supported the petitions: the Ad Hoc Shrimp Trade Action Committee* and the U.S. Shrimpers Coalition.** The chart in the post details how many pounds of support each group reported to Commerce.***

“I am deeply grateful to all of the processors and shrimpers that took the time and effort to express their support for our petitions from the very start and when it counted the most,” said Trey Pearson, President of ASPA. “Their support was critical to getting our cases off the ground, and each of those supporters should be proud of their participation.”

This is the first in a series of “Shrimp Duties Updates” from ASPA to keep members of our industry informed about the facts and figures underlying ASPA’s shrimp case. These updates will be available on ASPA’s website and you can sign up to receive them. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Shrimp Duties Update!
